About ADX

Alpha Delta Chi is a national Christian sorority. Our founders envisioned a place where Christian women could participate in Greek life without compromising their beliefs, buil
d strong friendships, and mirror Christ's love to their community. The sorority's purpose is to provide fellowship for Christian college women, strengthen the spiritual lives of its members, and be a testimony for Jesus Christ on each campus.

The founding chapter of Alpha Delta Chi was started at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1925 by ten Christian women. The founders wanted to create a place where Christian women could participate in Greek life without compromising their beliefs,  to build strong friendships, and most of all, to create a place which would mirror Christ's love to their community. The sorority was originally named Areta, which means virtue in Greek.  In 1929 two members of the Alpha chapter of Areta were attending the University of California, Berkeley as graduate students. There, the two women saw a need for the sorority and with the help of the Alpha Chapter, they chartered the Beta Chapter on February 4, 1929. Throughout the years, 24 chapters have been chartered across the nation and 16 of those remain active today.  The first annual convention of Alpha Delta Chi was held in Berkeley, California, on April 6-7, 1939. At this meeting, the National Association of Areta and the National Executive and Advisory Board were formed. The original name of the National Fraternity, Areta, was changed to Alpha Delta Chi at the June 1943 National Convention. In 1946, under the leadership of National President Celestia Major Jasaitis, Alpha Delta Chi became incorporated under the laws of the State of California.
